Lee Johnson questions 'disrespectful' Rangers view as Hibs boss offers Champions League opinion

Lee Johnson believes it's 'disrespectful' to suggest Rangers' full focus is on their Champions League return with PSV - and NOT Hibs this weekend.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst takes his troops to the capital as they bid to make it four league wins on the bounce at Easter Road. The Light Blues had a huge European clash on Tuesday night and with the return on Wednesday. The dream of dining at Europe's top table is still alive and kicking following a 2-2 draw at Ibrox earlier this week.

Reaching the next stage and joining Celtic and Ange Postecoglou in competing with the elite sides across Europe could net the Ibrox men well over £30million. Johnson is aware that will be a 'big focus' for Rangers but he is under no illusions over the quality of the Gers side that his men will come up against in Saturday's lunchtime showdown, even if Van Bronckhorst decides to shuffle the pack with one eye on midweek. The Hibees have had a mixed start to the season with four points from a possible nine and will be aiming to bounce back strong following defeat last time out against Livingston.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Rangers, Johnson said: “It's a difficult one.

“You'd think if there's £30 to £50 million riding on the midweek game that that probably becomes a big focus.

“But that's disrespectful in a sense to the players they've got in the squad, the depth of the squad. I think any Rangers side is going to be a good side.

“We were disappointed with the Livingston game (Hibs lost 2-1 at Almondvale). We did do enough to at least draw that game. A few home truths were told at the end of the game because the standards weren't high enough.

“But we've had a really good training week. The team selection on Saturday will be really, really positive to go and take the game to Rangers.”
