Lee Johnson in Mykola Kuharevich Hibs injury update ahead of Hearts Edinburgh derby clash

Lee Johnson has provided a fitness update on striker Mykola Kuharevich ahead of Hibs' derby clash with Hearts.

The Ukrainian striker hasn't made an appearance for the capital club since Premiership action returned following the World Cup shutdown as he has been struggling with an injury setback. A return looked to be on the cards ahead of the thumping by Celtic at Easter Road but after feeling a tweak in the warm-up he was replaced in the squad by Demetri Mitchell.

The striker will now be a late shout ahead of the second Edinburgh derby of the season as the Hibees look to turn around their form. They trail Hearts - who occupy third spot in the Premiership - by five points having played a game more. They know they can't avoid a defeat in the race to finish best of the rest and secure guaranteed European football next season.

Giving an injury update on the striker, he told Hibs TV: “Myko will be a late shout, if I’m honest, whether he will be fit or not. He felt a little nip, which you sometimes do, with that medial ligament injury he’s got, but we’re hopeful he could at least play a half.”

Jake Doyle-Hayes - who has been linked with a move to ambitious Forest Green Rovers - and Lewis Miller will also miss out for the Easter Road side as they continue their recovery from knocks.

Speaking after the heavy defeat to Celtic and ahead of the derby showdown with Hearts, midfielder Josh Campbell said: “We’ve got a game coming round quickly, the derby, it’s a massive game for us, and we’re all looking forward to it.”
