Lee Johnson brands Hibs' clash with St Mirren as 'biggest of season' as he tells fans 'we need you'

Lee Johnson has branded Hibs' clash with St Mirren as 'the biggest game of the season'.

The Premiership rivals go into the top six opener level on points as they fight it out to finish as high as possible in the league standings in the fight for European football. Celtic are heavy favourites to defeat Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final and if they do that, that would open the door for the team finish fifth to land a shot at Europa Conference League qualifiers.

The Easter Road side have already defeated the Buddies twice this season and boss Johnson knows how vital this game in the capital will be to achieving his aims of Europe. He's called on the fans to come out in force and roar his side to victory with 15,500 tickets already sold for the Easter Road clash. He hopes a couple more thousand will show up in Leith as he roared: 'We need you!'

Speaking to Hibs TV, he said: “It’s a huge game. We want to fill Easter Road as much as week can. I genuinely feel that this is one of, if not the, biggest games of the season. I’m really looking for that club performance. The boys are prepared.

“St Mirren are a very good side that’ve done very well. They’re organised, disciplined and strong. We’re going to need patience, support from the fans, and their volume. We’re trying to build our consistency of performances so fans can be proud of us.

“We’ve made top six which is great, but it’s not good enough because we want more. The next part of that is trying to beat a solid, strong St Mirren side and we need our fans to help with that.

“We’re on around 15,500 at the moment, and I’ll set a little challenge to see whether we can have another 2,000 or 3,000 walk-ins because we need you!

“I want us to play our game, be on the front-foot, take the game to them, and to make good decisions.”
