Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin, known for his work on Evil Dead Rise, has teamed up with John Keville and Macdara Kelleher of Wild Atlantic Pictures to establish Doppelgängers, a production company focusing on genre content. The company has kicked off with a bang by securing a first-look deal with New Line Cinema for its upcoming feature film projects.
New Line Cinema, the studio behind Evil Dead Rise, which grossed $147 million globally after premiering at SXSW, is collaborating with Cronin on a horror-thriller titled Thaw. Doppelgängers will concentrate on developing genre-centric feature films and television shows for Cronin to both write and direct, with Keville and Kelleher serving as producers.
Cronin expressed that the formation of Doppelgängers stemmed from his strong partnership with Keville, who produced his breakout film The Hole in the Ground, and Kelleher. He emphasized their shared passion for creating compelling narratives for broad audiences, leading to the establishment of this new venture.
Regarding the partnership with New Line Cinema, Cronin conveyed his excitement, stating that the studio provided an ideal platform for bringing their cinematic visions to life. Keville and Kelleher praised Cronin as a genre auteur with a successful box office track record, highlighting his ability to captivate viewers with character-driven stories.
The trio aims to position Doppelgängers as a hub for top-tier storytellers, fostering relationships with innovative writers and directors. Cronin and Doppelgängers are represented by CAA, MGMT, and attorney Jeff Hynick, solidifying their presence in the industry.
