Of all the high school basketball stars at this year’s McDonald’s All-American Game, none has a higher profile than Bronny James. And at Monday night’s dunk contest, Bronny certainly put on a show—though his reception by the events judges, apparently, was underwhelming for his very famous father.
As the younger James was showing off on the national stage, LeBron James watched along and shared his frustrations about the scores his son received for his impressive first dunk, which received mostly 9’s from the judges with a couple of 10’s in the mix.
The elder James did not hide his disappointment with those marks, tweeting encouragement for his son while also offering his own assessment of the throw down.
Bronny, currently a senior at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the class of 2023. Among the schools considered to be in the mix to land James include Oregon, USC and Ohio State.
LeBron has never participated in the NBA dunk contest, though he did star in the McDonald’s All-American Game 20 years ago, winning MVP honors for his efforts. Though he didn’t score all 10s on Monday, Bronny will have a chance to make another strong impression in Tuesday’s game.
