LeBron James to do "everything possible" to end NBA career on same team as son

LeBron James is a four-time NBA champion, a four-time finals MVP, and an 18-time all-star - but he retains a burning desire to add something else to his CV before he retires.

It appears James, 37, has no intention of packing away his trainers until he's able to play professionally with his son Bronny.

The basketball icon is currently focussed on helping the Los Angeles Lakers in their bid to reach the play-offs, and fresh off the back of beating the Utah Jazz, they will continue their push next Monday when they take on their LA rivals, the Clippers.

And although James knows he has already envisaged his final season in the sport - he doesn't know exactly when that will be.

"The last year I will play with my son," he declared in an interview with The Athletic .

"I will be where Bronny is, wherever he is. I will do everything possible to play with my son for a year. This has nothing to do with money anymore."

Student player Bronny, 17 currently represents, Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles - and has long been billed as a future star of the NBA.

'The King' is contracted at the Lakers until the summer of 2023, with the 'one and done rule' meaning Bronny is unlikely to reach the NBA until 2024 at the earliest - so James' latest comments suggest he could be around for a minimum of three more years.

However, there is potential for the family duo to team up prior to that, with league commissioner Adam Silver saying three years ago that he plans on altering rules on new players joining - although nothing has materialised as yet.

James also refused to rule out a third stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who he helped to the Championship in 2016.

Small forward James, who also won two championships with Miami Heat as well as his successes with the Cavaliers and Lakers, is the only player in history to have won the NBA finals with three different franchises.

He also holds the record for all-time play-off points, as well as the most combined regular season and play-off points, and is a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
