LeBron James has expressed his support for his son, Bryce, who has decided to play basketball at the University of Arizona next season. Bryce, a four-star recruit at Sierra Canyon School, made the college choice official on Wednesday. LeBron commended his son's decision, emphasizing that Bryce chose Arizona because he felt comfortable and appreciated the honesty of Coach Tommy Lloyd.
LeBron, who recently turned 40, scored an impressive 38 points for the Los Angeles Lakers in a game on Thursday night. He took the opportunity to praise Arizona while playfully jabbing at his former NBA teammates, Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, who are alumni of the university.
Bryce's older brother, Bronny, also attended Sierra Canyon School before playing a year at USC and then being drafted by the Lakers. LeBron and Bronny made history by becoming the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA earlier this season.
Despite having a scholarship offer from Ohio State, Bryce ultimately chose Arizona over the marquee school in his parents' home state. LeBron, a devoted fan of Ohio State athletics, jokingly feigned ignorance when asked about the Buckeyes' recent success in the Rose Bowl, before revealing his allegiance by donning an Ohio State cap.
LeBron, Jefferson, and Frye were part of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 2016 championship team, which brought the city its first major professional sports title. The James family is now excited to join the Bear Down community at the University of Arizona and be a part of the Tucson community.
