LeBron James’ son Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout with his college team, the University of Southern California, on Monday.
Bronny, whose name is LeBron Raymond James Jr., is the oldest son and child of the NBA great.
He recently graduated from Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California. James chose USC’s NCAA basketball program during the process of recruitment.
The incident, confirmed by a family spokesperson in a statement, took place at USC’s Galen Center. A 911 call at 9:26 a.m. Monday triggered a Code 3 emergency response, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. James was immediately rushed to the hospital.
“Yesterday while practicing, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in the ICU,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
He is currently in stable condition after being admitted to the ICU.
The 18-year-old, who recently committed to the Trojans and is projected to follow his father into the NBA, collapsed on the court before being rushed to the hospital.
Bronny’s parents, LeBron and Savannah James, expressed their appreciation for the USC medical and athletic staff’s unwavering dedication and care for their athletes.
Bronny, a McDonald’s All-American during his high school senior season, was a prominent talent at his high school showcase in March, according to TMZ.
“I’m super proud of him, our family is proud of him,” said James during an on-court interview about his commitment to USC. “For me personally, it’s even more special to me because it’s the first time someone out of my family to go to college. Obviously, I didn’t go to college.”
The James family requested privacy and said they would update the media with more information when available.
