LeBron James was once again drafted as the No. 1 pick for the upcoming NBA All-Star Game, setting a familiar tone reminiscent of his entry into the league back in 2003. The All-Star draft, featuring analysts Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley, saw James selected first overall for the game scheduled on Feb. 16 in San Francisco.

This year's All-Star Game will introduce a new format aimed at enhancing competitiveness by transforming the event into a tournament. The 24 All-Stars were divided into three eight-man rosters, with Barkley opting for players with international ties, including Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Pascal Siakam.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that the league has contemplated a U.S. vs. the World game format, although challenges exist in ensuring fair roster selections due to the league's composition of about 70% American players and 30% international players.

Notably, last year's All-Star Game set a record for the highest score in history, with a final score of 211-186 dominated by 3-pointers and dunks. To revamp the event, this year's All-Star will feature a four-team tournament, with the winner of the Rising Stars competition joining the main event as the fourth team.

The tournament will consist of two semifinal games, followed by a championship game where the first team to reach 40 points will be declared the winner. The Rising Stars team that advances to the All-Star Game will be named Team Candace, in honor of Candace Parker, with the other teams named Team Shaq, Team Kenny, and Team Charles.

The rosters for the teams include top NBA stars such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic, among others, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive All-Star event.
