LeBron James is 'declining and should be put on the trade block'

LeBron James should be sacrificed by the Los Angeles Lakers if it means they can get their hands on Zion Williamson, according to Colin Cowherd.

The Fox Sports NBA specialist has had his say on the big trade debate and he thinks it could be time for the world's most famous player to move on.

Lakers fans are split on the comments with some saying losing LeBron so soon after winning his signature would send out all the wrong messages.

Others think the 34-year-old - now in his 16th season - thinks injuries have proved too costly and some off season thinking is now required as they missed out on the play-offs.

Respected Cowherd, who has nearly 1.5million twitter followers, thinks James' star is now fading.

"LeBron's better than Zion, but in the history of business, when has trading a decline asset for a rising asset not been the only choice a grown up would make?"

"This is not a difficult task. LeBron is a declining asset, an expensive asset.

"He is a massive brand. The only reason you wouldn't make this move is fear.

"I'm not saying this is going to happen, but Johnny Dawkins just played against Zion and he said something which is really important, and it's not just that he's great, but that he's better in person.

"That's what everybody, everybody I talk to in the league thinks.

"LeBron would be an easy guy to trade, because he wasn't even loyal to Cleveland.

"The downside to being willing to get divorces is that people feel less guilty when they divorce you.

"Trading Magic would have been an outrage in Los Angeles, trading Kobe - pickets."

He added: "Let's be honest about Shaq, Shaq was out for Shaq and LeBron's out for LeBron.

"The Warriors could not trade Steph Curry, there would be absolute outrage, but Kevin Durant? Kevin Durant bailed on OKC, he's an easy guy to trade if we had to.

"Once you're wiling to publicly divorce, you don't get much heat when you're willing to dump them.

"I'm not saying it's going to happen, I think the Lakers are too fearful to do it, but in the lifetime of sports... whenever has moving off a still excellent, declining asset for an unbelievable, rising asset been not been what every smart grown-up has done?"
