18-year old Na’kia Crawford was shot and killed while out running errands with her grandmother on Sunday in Akron, Ohio. With this tragedy hitting home for LeBron James, he and his business partners have been trying to use their platform to bring attention to Crawford’s death and hope to find justice. On Thursday, authorities said they had suspects in custody and LeBron shared the news, while also hoping that the arrests result in convictions.
Earlier in the week, Maverick Carter also shared a photo on Instagram and posted for people in Akron to come forward with information that would lead to justice for Crawford.
Violence towards Black women and transgender people has become an even bigger focus of protesters as of late. There have yet to be any arrests made in the murder of Lousiville’s Breonna Taylor, while two Black transgender women were killed within the last week, Riah Milton in Ohio and Dominique “Rem’Mie” Fells in Pennsylvania.
