LeBron James calls Joe Burrow ‘generational talent’ with odd comparison to himself

The story of the weekend was Joe Burrow leading the Cincinnati Bengals to the Super Bowl. Everyone was talking about it, even LeBron James.

Burrow has already accomplished the unthinkable, leading a Bengals team that had the worst record in the league (2-14) in 2019 to win the AFC just two years later. Considering how unlikely of an achievement that is, he and the Bengals deserve all of the praise in the world.

@CuffsTheLegend, host of the #SomeDudePodcast, tweeted that Cincinnati’s forthcoming Super Bowl appearance would be like if the Sacramento Kings somehow won the Western Conference.

It’s a good way to contextualize how wild of a run Burrow has had of late! But if anything, Cincinnati’s success may have been even more improbable than Sacramento’s hypothetical run considering the Kings haven’t finished with the worst record in the league since 2008-09.

This tweet, however, caught LeBron’s attention for a somehow peculiar reason. LeBron replied to the tweet, posturing that it’s not unusual for a team to have success when they draft a “generational talent” like Burrow.

LeBron, who also called Burrow the “absolute TRUTH” in his post and also tweeted a photo of Burrow smoking a cigar, then compared the quarterback to himself. He said that Burrow’s time with the Bengals reminds him of his first tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Although he’s not wrong that the draft can immediately turn around the fate of a franchise, it’s objectively hilarious for LeBron to insert himself into the dialogue about Burrow like he did on Sunday night.

Burrow has led Cincinnati to win the conference in just his second year in the league. LeBron, however, didn’t make the playoffs until his third professional season and he didn’t make the NBA Finals until another season after that.

Of course, that’s not to take away anything from any of the success LeBron has had in the league. It’s just that no one was talking about him in relation to Burrow.

But it’s hard to imagine that Burrow, who went to high school in Ohio and rooted for LeBron, took any issue at all with the NBA legend bringing up the two of them in the same sentence.
