LeBron James agrees to two-year contract to stay with the Lakers

For months, many around the NBA expected that LeBron James would opt out of his current contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and sign a new one with them this summer.

There was talk that perhaps he would take a pay cut if they ended up signing a difference-making player with their mid-level exception. But that hasn’t happened.

Early Wednesday morning, James reportedly agreed to a two-year, $104 million contract to stay with the Purple and Gold. The deal has a player option for the 2025-26 season, as well as a rare no-trade clause. He can officially sign this contract as soon as this Saturday.

The 39-year-old superstar will be entering his 22nd season. He averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds a game while shooting 54% from the field and 41% from 3-point range this past season.
