The Lebanese army has recently announced its decision to strengthen its presence in the southern region of the country, as stated in a release on Wednesday. This move comes in the wake of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Lebanon shares its southern border with Israel, making the situation in this region of paramount importance. The terms of the new ceasefire pact dictate that Israel must completely withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon. Furthermore, the agreement specifies that the only authorized armed entities south of the Litani river in the region should be the Lebanese military and the UN peacekeeping forces.
In line with these developments, the Army Command issued a statement affirming that they have initiated the reinforcement of their deployment in the South Litani sector. This action aims to extend the reach of the state's authority in the area, in close collaboration with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
