Abbie Larkin completed her move to Shamrock Rovers from Shelbourne today and declared: ‘It was an opportunity I had to take’.
The senior Ireland international caused a stir by leaving champions Shelbourne after initially indicating that she would stay with the double winners for another season.
But the Reds revealed a controversial U-turn on Wednesday and issued a statement expressing disappointment that Larkin, 17, had changed her mind after the Hoops swooped.

And Rovers have also raided Shels for Ireland U17 ace Lia O’Leary while Aoibhe Fleming - another international at that age group - joins from Peamount United.
But Larkin’s move is the big talking point and she admits it wasn’t an easy decision to quit the league and women’s FAI Cup winners.
Larkin said: “I’m delighted to be joining Shamrock Rovers.
“It has been a difficult decision for me but the opportunity to sign for a club with a professional environment, a top coach and excellent facilities was an opportunity I had to take for my own development.
“I’m extremely excited about the new challenge, but I’d like to thank the people at Shelbourne who have helped with my development to date."
Rovers boss Collie O’Neill said: “I’m delighted to have the three girls on board - they are three of the best young players in the country.
“They will bring unbelievable talent to the group, and I can’t wait to help them develop even more.”
The Hoops' raid on Shelbourne continued this evening, with Rovers confirming they have snapped up three of the Reds' title winners.
Goalkeeper Amanda Budden and defenders Jess Gargan and Shauna Fox have joined the Tallaght outfit, along with Peamount's Lauren Kelly.
O'Neill said, “I am delighted to have all four girls on board, they are four of the most experienced players in the country.
"They will bring this fantastic experience to the group and help set standards and create a positive culture around the squad.”
