Pub owners were left feeling "on edge" after their building was spayed with anti-English graffiti.
The Cottage Inn in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, shared a picture of the vandalism on their Facebook page and vowed to report to police. Locals were shocked and "disgusted" by the vile message which read: "Leave English or die".
The owners wrote: "What can I say? The words say it all." Since posting the graffiti, the pub owners have received a wave of support from locals who assured them that the message does not reflect the view of the community, Wales Online reports.
In response, the owners said they were "fine but the words are scary and not knowing how far these people will go". They added that the incident has left them "a little on edge at present".
Members of the local community also volunteered to paint over the graffiti, but the owners said that while they were grateful, the police and landlord would need to examine it first. One person who commented on the post shared their message of support after recently moving from England.
They said: "so disgusted seeing this and being new to the area ourselves from England, this makes me very worried by the complete hatred in the area shown to a couple who are just trying to help the community and run a business.
"This is a death threat and should be taken seriously by the police!! Hope they get caught and named."
Another said: "Absolutely disgusting why anyone would write this on our local pub. Someone obviously has too much time on their hands. Would love to see them get caught and see them on their hands and knees scrubbing the wall."
A third said: "This has made me sad and angry. I am so sorry. This does not reflect our beautiful homeland and kind, caring, sharing people." It is not the first time the pub has been targeted by vandalism.
