Learner driver smashes car into railings in Salford on illegal solo trip

A learner driver in Salford smashed their car headfirst into railings after deciding to take a solo drive.

Police attended the scene after reports of a crash between a car and traffic refuge. Upon arrival, they discovered the driver - who had set off with their 'L plates' on - was only in possession of a provisional drivers license.

Images show a red Honda Jazz, complete with L plates, driven onto the pavement and crashed through large iron railings next to what appears to be a park. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say the vehicle has been seized and the driver reported.

It is understood that nobody was injuried in the collision.

In a tweet, GMP said: "#TrafficPCSOs #XQ51 attended report of a vehicle into railings in Salford having collided with a traffic refuge.

The vehicle has been seized (Greater Manchester Police)

The unaccompanied driver was uninjured but only in possession of a Provisional Driving Licence. #TransportUnit #seized vehicle s.165. Driver reported."
