I didn’t know entire maps could leak in Fortnite, but here we are. Dataminers @twoepicbuddies have released a huge file (40 MB) of the entire week 9 map for Fortnite, and even if we don’t have a ground-level look at what’s going on yet, with this kind of resolution we can already see some major changes.
Tilted Tower
My title is not a typo. There is a new tower going up in Tilted Towers. The will of the people of the often-ravaged city of Tilted Towers is strong, and they won’t be held down by something as paltry as a meteor hitting their city. We have seen construction crews seemingly repairing the damage done by the meteor over the past few weeks, but now they’re actually building something in place that’s more than the small buildings and parking lot that was there before.
What this looks like from the ground is anyone’s guess, but my guess is that Tilted might be getting its first true skyscraper in the wake of this rebuilding effort. You can see above what the map looks like now, but if you want to see the same image before, check out this version below.
That’s a big structure that’s coming, and I really want to know what it’s going to look like, and what the community will immediately nickname it.
Dusty Forest
This is a relatively minor change, but it’s very clear from this map that the growth happening in the Dusty Divot crater is only continuing to expand with even more trees and greenery. Is there anything…special about trees that are growing with hop rocks in their soil, or is this just going to turn into a regular forest surrounding the recovery base?
A Launched Rocket
Perhaps the biggest, but most unsurprising aspect of the new Fortnite map is the fact that the rocket no longer appears to be in the villain base near Snobby Shores. Week 9 finally seems like the time when the rocket is going to launch at last, after a countdown last week ended in…nothing, and seemed like an error. Some fans were speculating that perhaps launching the rocket would be an in-game activity for players, but if the rocket is flat-out missing in the map, my guess is that we’re going to see it in the sky, not launched every single game by players as I think that would be too chaotic to actually work as an in-game activity. But I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.
All of this is pretty exciting stuff, and it’s clear that the rocket is likely going to dictate the direction of season 5, which is just over two weeks away at this point. Is it going to space? Will it blow up Tilted’s new tower? Stay tuned.
