Leah Williamson insists ‘no stone left unturned’ as England target glory at Women’s Euros on home soil

Leah Williamson says England Women will leave no stone unturned in their preparations for this summer’s Euros and they will be the best-prepared Lionesses side in history.

England kicked off their training camp for the Euros, which starts on July 6, on Monday and they are currently based at St. George’s Park.

Later in the tournament they will move to The Lensbury Resort in London, but for now they are remaining at St. George’s Park ahead of three warm-up games.

Multiple sides are at England’s football base this week, including Gareth Southgate’s side as they prepare for Nations League games, but the Lionesses have been given the Sir Bobby Charlton pitch, the main one, to train on.

And asked if Williamson reckons England will be better prepared than they have ever been before, she said: “Yes, I think so.

“Every year, with the increase, we’re on a journey and getting more investment and stuff like that…. year-on-year you just notice an increase.

“And it comes down to things like money obviously but also it’s that level of respect the women’s game is getting, from the work that we’re doing. There’s no stone left unturned in these preparations.

“This is something that’s important. Women’s football is on a journey and we’re on the up, and we fight for that in all areas as much as we can.

“But the respect that we’ve been given and the respect that our tournament has been given, bearing in mind we have a Euros in the summer, and the preparation and the facilities that we have access to despite - if you’d have gone back a couple of years this wouldn’t have been the case, and that’s just factual.

“So the fact that is now [happening] is a big step in the right direction.”
