Leading Scottish lawyer joins Alba to 'help ensure Alex Salmond's legacy continues'

A LEADING Scottish lawyer has announced that he has joined the Alba Party.

Mike Dailly, who is currently the principal solicitor at the Govan Law Centre, said he made the choice to help ensure “Alex Salmond’s legacy continues”.

The former Alba leader and first minister passed away in October, with his public memorial taking place this last weekend at Edinburgh’s St Giles’ Cathedral.

The Glasgow lawyer, who attended the memorial, said he made the move having “reflected on the titan that Alex Salmond was” as well as his “contribution to Scottish society”.

Dailly said: “It’s clear that Scottish Politics requires a radical shake up. Over recent years, the SNP have lost their way on independence and on running the shop at Holyrood."

He added: “It is clear to me that Alba are pulling together a team of serious people who are capable of restoring some much needed competence in the Scottish Parliament. This is needed now more than ever to advance the cause of Scottish Independence”

Alba’s acting party leader, Kenny MacAskill welcomed the “terrific” addition of Dailly.

“His record on a variety of social justice campaigns, from the abolition of warrant sales to tackling homelessness, as well as the work he does in his capacity at Govan Law centre, speaks for itself,” MacAskill said.

“He was instrumental, alongside Alex Salmond, in bringing forward the legal challenge against both the UK and Scottish Governments over the cut to Winter Fuel Payments.

“I am sure his experience will help to advance the party as we look towards the 2026 Scottish Parliament election. The Alba Party is rising.”
