The leader of a Nottinghamshire council has announced they will step down next year. The leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Councillor Simon Robinson said he will step down from the role in 2023.
Mr Robinson, who has been the leader of the authority since 2016, made a statement at a full council meeting on Thursday, December 1, at Rushcliffe Arena confirming his future exit. He will lead the council and its majority Conservative group into next year and then stand down before the local elections next May.
He said: “I feel incredibly proud and privileged to have led Rushcliffe Borough Council over the last six years. It was incredibly challenging during the pandemic, however, it was great to see the communities of Rushcliffe step up and support all our residents and businesses.

“I’d like to thank all the councillors, the cabinet and the officers of Rushcliffe for their incredible support and teamwork over this time. It was incredibly rewarding to see the council win major national awards for our entrepreneurship and commercial projects and see the wonderful investments we’ve made in the borough such as the Cotgrave town centre project, the forthcoming new Bingham Arena and Enterprise Centre and the new Rushcliffe Oaks Crematorium.
“I would like to wish the council employees and Councillors all the very best in the future and I’m sure they will keep Rushcliffe one of the best places to live, work and do business.”
