LB Zeke Turner returns to the Cardinals on one-year deal

The Arizona Cardinals continue with their trend of bringing back their own free agents. The latest is linebacker and special teams ace Zeke Turner.

The team announced Friday Turner agreed to terms on a one-year contract.

Turner entered the league as an undrafted rookie in 2018 and made a name for himself on special teams. He also transitioned from safety, the position he played in college at Washington, to linebacker.

He was limited by injuries last season, spending much of the season on injured reserve. Turner had two special teams tackles last season in five games. However, he led the team with 22 special teams tackles in 2018 as a rookie and tied for the team lead with 15 in 2020. He was tied for second on the team in 2019 with seven.

He has blocked two punts in his career and has had a reception on a fake punt.

Because of his background as a defensive back, he gives the Cardinals a backup to Isaiah Simmons who can do some of the same things.

He becomes the ninth of their own free agents the Cardinals have retained.

He will certainly maintain his role as a core special teamer and backup linebacker.
