Lawrence Shankland reveals Hearts issues addressed in dressing room inquest after St Mirren defeat

Lawrence Shankland has revealed the issues he and his Hearts teammates addressed during their dressing room inquest after losing to St Mirren.

The Jambos were beaten 2-0 by the Buddies - a result which saw manager Robbie Neilson sacked the following day. His players remained in the changing for some time after the full-time whistle in an attempt to hash out the issues after a fifth defeat on the spin ahead of this weekend’s Edinburgh derby away to Hibs.

But Shankland insists there were no glaring problems that needed urgent attention, just honest conversations about individuals and their confidence levels. Interim boss Steven Naismith and assistant Frankie McAvoy have been tasked with restoring that to a squad which has lost it’s way in recent weeks and get the push for third place back on track. There is no better boost than a win in your rivals’ backyard, and Shankland reckons the positive vibes will return if man by man, Hearts get back to their previous standards.

“Especially after the last game at home to St Mirren, we had honest conversations amongst each other and we said what we had to say,” he said. “But there were no major problems that had to be sorted, we just seemed to have a lack of confidence and belief, which was showing in our performances.

“That comes down to individuals and how they’re feeling going into games. It’s a tough situation when you're losing games repeatedly. It’s hard to find confidence.

“We need to look at ourselves individually and if we do that, then the collective will take care of itself.”
