Lawrence Shankland refuses to give up on Scotland call despite Belgium relegation and insists he is 'needed'

Defiant Lawrence Shankland insists he hasn't given up on reclaiming his Scotland place despite being relegated to the Belgian second tier.

The Beerschot hitman has only managed four goals this season since his £1 million move from Dundee United in August and his side have already been relegated after a disastrous season where they sit currently ten points adrift at the bottom of the Jupiler Pro League.

But the former Aberdeen striker , who has four caps, has already vowed to stay with the club in the second division and hasn't given up on continuing his Scotland dream either.

He said: "I am still on the long list of players needed by Steve Clarke.

“I have to send my individual data to the assistants of the national coach.

"The national team is and remains a goal. I will continue to work hard and patiently wait for another opportunity. I am not a quitter.

“I feel very loved here. That's good, because I haven't been able to give much back to the fans yet. I will do everything I can to be top scorer next season.

"It took me a while to settle here, but that's no excuse. I know I should have scored more goals because I was given plenty of opportunities.

"Second division football in Belgium doesn't scare me. I am under contract here for another two years and I presume that I will also play at Beerschot next year.

"My wife and daughter visit often. I am happy in Antwerp and I feel very good at this club."
