New signing Lawrence Shankland has vowed to bring back the mowhawk he sported as a youngster - if Hearts win a trophy this season.
The striker arrived from Beerschot on a two-year deal earlier this week as he reunited with his former Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson. The Tynecastle side splashed out a reported £500,000 on the Scotland hitman, with Neilson hoping he can rediscover the form that saw him fire 28 goals in 33 appearances under him previously.
Before launching his senior career at Queen's Park, he was actually in the Hearts academy as a youngster, and a picture has been doing the rounds on social media of a baby-faced Shankland sporting the home shirt from 2004 - as well as an interesting haircut. But the 26-year-old says he takes no embarrassment from the blond mohawk on show, vowing he will bring it back if he gets his hands on a trophy in his first season back at Tynecastle.
He told Sky Sports: "If we win a trophy I'll bring it back for a full season I think! It's probably a better haircut than I have just now to be fair so I might just bring it back naturally."
Shankland's move to Belgium from Dundee United didn't quite go to plan with just four goals in a dreary season for Beerschot, who were relegated from the top flight. A reasonable nine in 36 for the Tangerines the season prior was a better return though and the hope is that he'll find the form again that saw him earn four Scotland caps under Steve Clarke.
