Law & Order: Organized Crime crew member shot dead on set

A man working for the US show Law & Order: Organized Crime was fatally shot in the run up to filming. The incident happened yesterday morning, on Tuesday 19 July.

The crew member was shot and killed while working near the set in Brooklyn, New York City. He has been named by the New York Police Department as 31 year old Johnny Pizarro, from Queens.

Pizarro was sitting in his car in the Greenpoint neighbourhood of Brooklyn when the shocking incident occurred. An unidentified person approached the vehicle, opened the door and shot him at around 5:15am.

Pizarro worked guarding equipment trucks for the show and was also responsible for clearing parking spaces. Following the shooting, he was taken to Woodhull Medical Centre, but was pronounced dead at 6am.

An arrest is yet to be made and it is not clear whether the two people had a prior connection. Law & Order: Organized Crime is produced by NBC and Universal Television. In a statement, they said: “We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result.”

They added: “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate.

"Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

Meanwhile, a statement from New York City Mayor Eric Adams said: “We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time, and will work diligently to bring the suspect to justice and stem the tide of gun violence we are seeing.

“The safety of all New Yorkers is our top priority. No shooting is acceptable, which is why we are working every day to get illegal guns off New York City streets.”

Law & Order: Organized Crime is due to air its third season this autumn. It stars Christopher Meloni, who plays Detective Elliot Stabler.
