Law and District Amateur Athletics stars set new records and tackle half marathon test

Club records tumbled and new personal bests were set as Law and District Amateur Athletic Club stars produced top performances in track and field events across the UK over the last month.

First up was the Edinburgh half marathon in late May for U20 athlete Jessica Robson and senior runner John O’Leary.

Jess completed the gruelling capital course in an impressive time of 86 minutes, with a new PB in to the bargain, and John also crossed the finish line with a new PB in brilliant time of 1hr 48mins.

Senior athlete Ross MacDonald competed in the full marathon and finished the course in an impressive 49th place with a swift time of 2:43.25hrs.

Fellow senior Rich Beattie sensibly retired from the full marathon after picking up an injury early on.

Meanwhile, under-20 star Leah Keisler was in Cardiff competing in the National League and achieved a new club record in the 400m hurdles with a new personal best time of 62.83s.

U23 Emily McNicol took part in the 1500m at the Joint League in Grangemouth, achieving a new club record and personal best time of 4:40.19mins.

Club success continued as U15 Johann Gillon competed at the Scottish Schools Championships in Grangemouth, winning the Championship title in the hammer with a new personal best performance of 36.65m.

And finally four senior Law athletes travelled to Kingston on Thames, London to compete in the National League as part of team Glasgow Jaguars, helping their team finish in fourth place overall.

Emily McNicol competed in the 2000m steeplechase, winning the event, James Gillon competed in the 3000m steeplechase and then the 3000m, while James McClafferty took part in the 400m event and then the 4x400m relay, with his team winning the relay.

Kieran Pugh also competed in the 1500m, returning to competition after recovering from injury.
