Lautaro Martínez has solidified his commitment to Inter Milan by signing a new long-term contract that extends his stay with the Serie A champions until June 2029. The 26-year-old forward's decision to remain with the club was announced by Inter in a statement released on Monday, following extensive discussions between his representatives and club executives.
Expressing his gratitude and pride, Martínez stated, 'This renewal means a lot to me. After six years, still being here holds great significance for me and my family. I am truly happy and eager to continue striving for success.'
Since his arrival at Inter from Racing Club in 2018, Martínez has been a prolific goal-scorer, netting 129 goals in 282 appearances. His standout performance last season, where he scored a league-leading 24 goals, played a pivotal role in Inter clinching the Scudetto. This marked his second Serie A title with the club, following the previous triumph under Antonio Conte in 2021.
Reflecting on his achievements, Martínez expressed his desire to continue making significant contributions, stating, 'Having scored extensively brings me joy, but I aim to score many more goals in this jersey. Our recent successes, including the historic Second Star [Inter's 20th Scudetto], fill me with pride as we etch our names in club history.'
Not only a standout performer at the club level, Martínez also played a crucial role in Argentina's recent triumphs. As a World Cup winner in 2022, he was instrumental in his country's retention of the Copa América title last month, notably scoring five goals, including the decisive goal in the final against Colombia.
