Laurita Blewitt has lifted the lid on her wedding day to Joe Brolly, describing it as a “proper party”.
The podcaster married the GAA pundit in an intimate ceremony of 100 family and friends at the Ice House Hotel in Ballina, Mayo, earlier this month.
Laurita looked stunning in a white gown with lace sleeves and delicate hairband, while Joe was dapper in a black three-piece suit with orange tie.
The Mayo native has now opened up about her special day following Joe’s proposal last year.
Laurita told RSVP Live : “It was a great day, very social. We had a big marquee in Knockmore at the GAA clubhouse and had a big party which was lovely.
“Obviously at your wedding you are surrounded by your best friends and family, so there was plenty of singing and dancing and music.
“It was a good old Irish wedding, a proper party.”
The newlyweds then decided to jet off to Portugal for their honeymoon - but Laurita revealed that they almost didn’t make it there due to a mistake on her new husband’s part.
“My beloved, his first job as a husband was to bring the passports to the airport,” she explained.
“We arrived at Knock Airport without them. We were lucky we didn’t have an annulment,” she jokingly added.
“That’s the beauty of going from Knock Airport, we were able to run home and get them! If it was Dublin Airport we definitely would have missed the flight.
“Big shout out to Ryanair and Knock Airport. It was lovely to get away.”
Laurita is one third of the Tommy, Hector and Laurita podcast which she hosts with Tommy Tiernan and Hector O'hEeochagain.
What once began as a lockdown project has evolved into a phenomenon as it is one of the most listened to podcasts in the country and is streamed across the world.
Listeners love tuning in to listen to the trio and Laurita admitted she is sometimes surprised by its success.
She said: “I suppose it’s worked because we didn’t have any expectations as such. We didn’t know where it was going to go, if it was going to last a month or six weeks but it’s just gone from strength to strength.
“It’s very organic and natural; we haven’t been forced together and we just talk about random stuff.
“You never know where the conversation is going to go, but we love it, we have great fun recording it and I think our listeners get that. People feel like they are listening in to their friends' conversations.”
As fans of the show will know, Tommy, Hector and Laurita are absolutely hilarious together and the podcaster feels lucky that she has such a laugh while at work.
“My family doesn’t seem to think I work at all! It doesn't seem like work, I’m very privileged in a way to have a job where I’m having fun and you’re getting paid to talk,” she said.
“Yes, you still have to go there, and record it, but I’m not going to complain about it.
“People have a lot of stressful jobs, I work in fundraising for Mayo Roscommon Hospice as well so it’s lovely to incorporate both things in my life and call them work.”
This week, Laurita teamed up with Sports Direct for their Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme, which is an innovative way to introduce mothers and other women to Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment.
The initiative has proven immensely popular since its inception, with almost 400 clubs from all 32 counties currently involved, with the aim to grow this further throughout 2022.
An avid fan of GAA, Laurita said this campaign was right up her street and it was a no brainer for her to get involved.
She told us: “I played Gaelic football all my life but haven’t played properly since 2014 due to injury, so to get the opportunity to go back is brilliant.
“I’m from Knockmore, it’s a great footballing community and it’s something I’ve wanted to join for ages but haven’t had the time. So to get the opportunity to do Gaelic4Mothers&Others is brilliant.
“It’s a great initiative and it means that women are getting to play sport and not competitively, which can be intimidating.”
The Sports Direct Gaelic4Mothers&Others National Blitz this September will see a total of 132 clubs from across all four corners of the country involved at Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s GAA clubs in Dublin. This will be the first time the blitz has been held since 2019 due to Covid-19. For more information on the Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme, please click here.
