Laurie Canter is an English golfer who has competed on the DP World Tour and in the LIV Golf League during his time in the pro game. Discover more about his life and career via these facts.

1. His full name is Laurence Richard Canter.

2. Canter was born November 3, 1989 in Bath, England.

3. He is attached to Cumberwell Park Golf Club in Wiltshire, England.

4. Canter didn't take up the game of golf until he was 13 years old.

5. While growing up, Canter played tennis against Andy Murray's club.

6. Canter enjoyed a fantastic amateur career, winning the 2010 South African Amateur Championship and the 2011 Spanish Amateur Open Championship. He also represented GB&I in the St Andrews Trophy and England at both the Eisenhower Trophy as well as European Amateur Team Championship.

7. He made his Major debut at the age of 20 when playing at St Andrews in the 2010 Open Championship, won by Louis Oosthuizen.

8. Canter opted to turn professional in 2011 and began life as a pro on the Challenge Tour until 2013 when he dropped down to the EuroPro Golf Tour for a couple of seasons.

9. Canter is a huge sports fan and a lifelong Bath rugby supporter.

10. Canter gained his DP World Tour card at Q-School before losing status at the end of the following season three years in a row between 2015 and 2017.

11. At the 2020 Italian Open, Canter broke the tournament's 36 hole scoring record with rounds of 60 & 68, giving him a 128 total (16-under-par).

12. He is good friends with fellow tour pros, Jordan Smith and Eddie Pepperell.

13. The Englishman enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2020, securing five top-10 finishes, including two runner-up places.

14. Canter uses a mixed bag of golf clubs, with his current set-up including Ping driver, fairway woods and irons, as well as Titleist Vokey wedges.

15. In 2022, Canter joined LIV Golf as one of the founding players and did not retain his DP World Tour status. In 2023, he was retained as a reserve by LIV Golf and featured for the Majesticks team as injury cover for Sam Horsfield. He also played for the Cleeks in place of captain, Martin Kaymer.

16. In 2023, Canter gave Caitlyn Jenner a golf lesson during a LIV Golf event.

17. Having not secured a spot in the LIV Golf field for 2024, Canter participated in the LIV Golf Promotions Event. He lost in a playoff for the final spot on a team roster, but was given one of the two wild card places for the opening event of the season. However, early on in 2024, Canter revealed he had left the LIV Golf League and was pursuing a career back on the DP World Tour.

18. At the end of 2023, Canter played in numerous DP World Tour events and finished runner-up at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

19. Canter claimed his first DP World Tour title at the European Open in June 2024, winning by two strokes from Thriston Lawrence and Bernd Wiesberger.

20. The Englishman was selected to represent GB&I at the 2025 Team Cup. Canter scored three points having only tasted defeat once in his four matches.
