Laura Woods left in hysterics over Ally McCoist's beach encounter with Roy Keane

Ally McCoist has recalled a brilliant tale involving Roy Keane which left his TalkSport colleague Laura Woods in stitches.

The Scottish pundit is a regular on Woods' breakfast show on the radio channel and was also recently out in Qatar covering the World Cup with her and former Manchester United legend Keane for ITV. McCoist was handed co-commentary duties for a number of matches for the tournament while Keane often joined presenter Woods as a pundit in the studio.

While the football action filled much of their respective schedules, they did get some downtime to relax in the Middle East, with McCoist revealing an amusing exchange he had with Keane on the local beach. "I had a belter with him, at the World Cup, when I had an afternoon off, and I thought I'm going to go down to the beach for an hour, cause I like a wee swim," McCoist began.

"So I walked down the beach, which is next to the hotel, and the beach, I'm telling you, NOBODY on the beach. Nobody. It wasn't a massive beach, about 80-something beds.

"One sunbed way up on the left hand side, Roy's sitting on it and he's got his headphones on - only person on the beach. I’m thinking to myself there's no danger, absolutely no danger that he wants to see me."

Barely able to contain his laughter in the clip, shared by TalkSport, McCoist continued: "Initially I thought I'll pull up a sunbed right next to him, turn on my Rammstein (Gothic metal rock band) and see where it takes us."

Woods can be heard giggling hysterically in the background as McCoist, face getting redder as he chuckles loudly, explains: "I nearly did, I thought he'd kill me. I thought I'll pull up right next to him, I'll stick on Rammstein and have a chat with him - but I didn't.

"I walked up to him, walked all the way along the beach, he's sitting there, he's got his headphones on, he opens one eye, looks at me and removes the left ear. I said 'you'll be delighted to hear, I'm not going to sit next to you, I'm going to leave you alone, I just wanted to say hello.'

"And he looked at me, closed his left eye, put his left ear plug back in, and stuck a thumb up."

McCoist and Woods then burst into laughter over the unsurprising response from the no-nonsense pundit.

Keane clashed on more than one occasion with colleague Graeme Souness during live broadcasts in Qatar and has admitted that he flew home during the World Cup as he "needed a break" from some of the other pundits, though stopped short of being specific.

“To be fair Roy went home for four or five days as well actually,” Gary Neville told SkyBet during a discussion with his former United captain. “He went back.”

Keane replied: “I had a break. I needed a break, just my tolerance levels. Yeah, people get on my nerves.” Asked by Micah Richards to name names, Keane added: “How long have we got? Fellow pundits.”
