Laura Whitmore slams pay claims and says Caroline Flack suffered same ‘online hate’

Laura Whitmore has slammed claims she earns more than half a million pounds for her role on Love Island this season.

It was reported that the ITV2 host pocketed £600,000 for appearing on the dating show for 13 minutes and 26 seconds.

The figures were then broken down to show she was reportedly paid some £744 a second for her presenting work.

However, the star took to her Instagram Stories to slam the reports and deny the claims.

"£744 a second! I feel sorry for whoever was made attempt the ridiculous maths based on nothing but speculation! Lads apparently I've made 10k whilst writing this story!" she wrote.

She went on to share a clip she shared before the series kicked off, where she discussed the same pay rumours.

The old TikTok involved her taking a selfie video while text appeared over her, with it beginning with: "'Laura has the easiest job on the telly! She gets paid 50k a min. It's an outrage'."

She responded with: "Firstly, Iain has never had attention on money he earns. Why don't we like women earning money? I bloody wish I earned what was written in the press! I only get paid the days I work."

Laura added another piece of text imitating what people have said about her: "'She should be sacked she's never in there!'"

"It's the same EVERY YEAR! This story is exhausting. Producers can mix up WHEN I go in as a surprise," the presenter hit back.

Laura went on to share headlines that mentioned the late Caroline Flack never appearing on the show when she was the host.

"It's easier to ignore things but when you've seen it happen to women in the past and people just don't learn, it's important to call it out," she said.

"Because constantly printing articles like this generates online hate."

Meanwhile, the drama is getting spicier by the minute in the Mallorcan villa.

In fact, the ITV2 programme has so many viewers gripped that it's returning for two series next year.

Love Island will kick start the New Year with a fresh batch of Islanders heading to South Africa on a quest for love and romance.

It will be business as usual throughout the summer, as the popular dating show will return to Mallorca for another eight week run.

Announcing the news on Thursday, Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning and Controller, ITV2, said: " Love Island has once again proved itself to be the nation’s favourite talking point across the summer, and we’re always blown away by the show’s ongoing impact and talkability amongst our younger audience.

"So, rather than just serving up a Summer of Love, we thought we’d make 2023 the Year of Love with two full series of the show."
