Following TV presenter Laura Whitmore's announcement that she would be leaving Love Island, there has been speculation amongst fans that she could be in line to be the next presenter of Big Brother when it returns in 2023. The 37-year-old TV and radio host revealed on Monday (August 22) evening that she would not be fronting the next series of Love Island.
Taking to Instagram to announce the news with her 1.6 million followers, Laura, who hosted for three series, shared her reasoning behind her decision to step down, The Mirror reports. In the caption she wrote: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island.
"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."
Viewers of the hit ITV2 dating programme have since taken to Twitter sharing their theories as to who could take on the role next as Laura teased they would "be in safe hands". But many fans were also speculating as to whether she could be moving on to present another reality TV show.
ITV announced earlier this month that the reality TV series Big Brother would be making a comeback in 2023 on ITV2 and ITVX - but it hasn't yet been confirmed who will be fronting the series. Fans have been questioning whether Laura could be the next host.
Gary Hill tweeted: "Is Laura Whitmore stepping away from love island because she’s the new big brother presenter?" S Muzz posed the question: "Does your news of leaving love island mean you are the new presenter for big brother @thewhitmore?"
Sophie took to Twitter saying: "So who reckons @thewhitmore is hosting big brother, now she’s left @LoveIsland? #bigbrotheruk #LoveIsland." Miss Manifestation added: "nah… laura whitmore is gonna host big brother. mark my words".
Lee Hood posted: "Laura Whitmore has left the presenting job on Love Island I bet the bookmakers are making her favourite to host the new Big Brother show #LoveIslandUK #LoveIsland2022 #BigBrother #loveisland".
Laura's latest career news also comes just over a week after it was announced she would be joining the cast of 2:22 - A Ghost Story in the West End this September. She will be taking to the stage alongside Busted's Matt Willis, Archers actor Felix Scott and actress Tamsin Carroll.
ITV are also planning to broadcast two Love Island season's next year as the Winter version of the show, filmed in South Africa, has been confirmed to be returning at the start of next year. A summer version of the dating programme will also be back on our screens in 2023 too.
