Laura Whitmore's 'dig' at Love Island's Tasha awkwardly backfires as expert corrects her

Laura Whitmore was awkwardly corrected by a wine expert on the Saturday Kitchen after suggesting that Love Island alum Tasha Ghouri had been misinformed about rosé.

The presenter, 37, appeared on the latest episode of the BBC show - which aired this morning - as a guest, where she sampled some food and drinks alongside panelists.

Early on in the show, wine expert Helen McGinn teased that Laura may get to try some rosé, saying that she was aware her and husband Iain Stirling, 34, are fans of that variety.

The remark prompted Laura to mention Tasha, 23 - who reached the final of Love Island this year - with her bringing up a comment that she had made during the ITV2 series.

Laura said: "I love a rosé. Also, Tasha on Love Island this year she thought rosé was made from red wine and white wine [mixed together] which is apparently not how you make it."

Helen however came to the defence of dancer Tasha, responding: "Ah but I have to say Tasha's not entirely wrong." She then explained that rosé can actually be a mixture.

She commented: "In Champagne [the region in France famous for its champagne] you are allowed to mix red and white wine to make rosé, but only in Champagne in France."

Laura appeared quite surprised as she was corrected over the making of rosé, with her subsequently teasing: "Do you think Tasha thought that? I don't think so."

Helen - who is the author of award-winning blog The Knackered Mother's Wine Club - said that she disagreed with Laura. She said: "I love Tasha. I think she knew all along."

The exchange didn't go unnoticed, with one viewer tweeting: "One minute in and Laura has already tried to shame someone else’s intelligence, only for it to backfire."

Other responses to the exchange included a person who said it seemed like a "dig" and was "unnecessary to belittle" Tasha. Laura's remark was also described as "rude".

Some people however have come to Laura's defence on social media, with one writing: "It was a joke." Others felt similarly, including a person who said: "She was joking."

Saturday Kitchen continues next Saturday (August 27) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 10am. You can catch up on previous episodes now through the BBC iPlayer.
