Laura Whitmore quits Love Island over 'difficult' elements of show and honours Caroline Flack

Laura Whitmore has stood down as Love Island host, after three years in the coveted TV role, citing 'very difficult' elements of the show as the reason why.

Laura took over from Caroline Flack, who quit her 'dream job' at the end of 2019, months before her death. Laura presented the one and only Winter Love Island to date in January 2020, before going onto host the summer series in 2021, after the show was cancelled for a year and then the hit ITV2 show's most recent run, which was won at the start of August by Ekin-Su and Davide.

Laura announced her departure from Love Island, ahead of the next series in South Africa, in an Instagram post, which also saw her pay tribute to dear friend and predecessor Caroline.

Uploading a picture of her going into the Love Island villa to her grid, Laura wrote: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects. I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands."

Talking about Caroline, she added: "I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline."

Among the many people who were quick to comment on Laura's announcement was 2021 contestant Faye Winter, who wrote: "She really would be proud! You done incredibly," while Vicky Pattison told Laura: "You did wonderful mate!! You'll be missed."
