Laura Whitmore has appeared to make a cryptic dig at Love Island, as she hinted why she decided to quit the show.
The presenter left fans of the ITV2 show reeling when she announced she had stepped down from her role as presenter on the main show and its sister show After Sun. Laura had hosted the show for three years, stepping in for the late Caroline Flack.
But now, Laura has seemingly made a cryptic comment about her reason to leave the presenting role as she opened up about her love for the programme. She explained she was "proud" of what she did on the show.
Speaking about her exit from the ITV show, she said: "Love Island is a show that I love to watch, and I always want to work on shows that I enjoy. But there’s nothing more that I can do with it. There are parameters.
"When you work on the show, you can’t really talk about certain things. But I’m really proud of what I did, and proud to leave on what I think has been a brilliant series, with great winners."
Laura also expressed her love for this year's winners, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti.
She told the Evening Standard: "I'm a huge fan of Ekin-Su and Davide. I know Love Island. People love a journey. No-one wants a happy relationship, because life isn’t a happy relationship. We want to see the ups and downs."
Laura shocked fans when she announced she'd be stepping down as host.
"Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island," she said in a statement as she announced her departure, "There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects."
She went on the explain she was only going to do it for one series, but it soon turned into 3, adding: "I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series."
Since then, many celebrities and former Islanders have expressed their desire to take over as host, but a replacement has yet to be decided by ITV2 bosses ahead of the upcoming series, which will see more Islanders carted off to South Africa for the return of the winter series as their hunt for love is broadcasted for all of us to enjoy.
