Laura Whitmore: Iain Stirling is 'most tanned Scotsman' after filming Love Island

TV presenter Laura Whitmore is miffed her husband is living it up in the Love Island sunshine while she stays at home. She claims Scots comic Iain Stirling who voiceovers the show is spending so much time in the Mallorcan sunshine that he’s become “the most tanned Scottish man” she knows.

Laura, 37, is filming from London while her hubby gets to be on the island. She said: “Why does he have to be in Spain for the voiceover? I am like ‘why are you in Majorca?’

“He has to be there? To crack a tan? He is the most tanned Scottish man I have ever seen.”

Iain, 34, works with sidekick Mark to write and do the voiceovers for the nightly ITV2 show while Irish-born Laura presents her Aftersun show from studios in London. But Laura – at home in London with the couple’s daughter 15-month old Stevie Re, said she’s even found herself mothering the contestants.

“I get a bit motherly and maternal,” she admitted on Radio 2. “You feel a bit protective of them. I went in this year, because it is hot and I’m Irish, so I have the SPF50 on and I see somebody and say ‘Are you wearing suncream? Are you hydrated enough?’”

Edinburgh-born Iain said he loved how he got to spend his summer. He said: “I love Love Island and it’s such a big part of my life. I love the people who work on it, I love going to Spain and I love the contestants.

I’m really proud of the show – the atmosphere and the camaraderie. I watch every episode like a viewer would.I get to see it a few hours before it goes out so I can do the voiceover but I’m as eager to see what happens next as folk at home.”

The couple have been able to meet up after Laura flew over to the villa earlier this month to surprise the contestants in a vote off.
