Laura Muir has worked so hard to get where she is today that she is confident she can even outrun the cheats.
Muir won Tokyo Olympic silver in the women’s 1500 metres, a race with a dark past having been dubbed the ‘dirtiest’ in history at London 2012.
Six of the top nine that day, including the gold and silver medallists, have served bans before or since.
Muir believes the event is now in a “lot better place” but admits: “I've kind of adopted the thought that the only person I'm ever in control of, and can only ever be 100% confident in, is myself.
“That's the only body I can control what goes into it and how hard I work and everything like that. Whatever happens outside of that I just have to hope is okay.”
The in-form Scot, who starts her campaign at Hayward Field tomorrow, added: “I try to be positive as I don't want to let people make me feel miserable about my sport.
“I love it and want to enjoy it for what it is and don’t want those people to win in making me question the sport.
“So I do the best I can and hopefully my best is enough to win medals regardless of what other people are doing.”
