Laughable Celtic transfer fact remains claims Rangers punter but Beale told get out the bargain bin - Hotline

The transfer window is creaking towards closure but Rangers are still hopeful of squeezing another couple of signings through before Tuesday’s deadline.

So far Todd Cantwell is the only arrival but midfielder Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege and Swansea forward Morgan Whittaker could yet join the Englshman at Ibrox. And Gers fans are desperate for Michael Beale to be given the funds to bolster his options. Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Cantwell in action, he certainly comes with a big reputation regarding his performances in Norwich's EPL side, though it didn't end well for him. He just may be the player Rangers need, plus Raskin looks to be a good asset, hopefully they'll pony up the payment the Belgian club want.”

David Kirkpatrick, Stirlingshire, said: “Cantwell is a good start but Rangers need to pull out all the stops to land Morgan Whittaker. If it’s true that the boy is desperate to move to Ibrox then give him his wish. That would then ease the worry over Ryan Kent’s contract situation.” Speaking of deals, just like Kent, Alfredo Morelos has yet to decide where his future lies. And Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “If Alfredo Morelos wants to try and hold Rangers Football Club to ransom I say let him go and in the interim to remove him from the first team. I can guarantee that if he leaves that he will be begging to return within six months. Maybe he will even beg in English as the fans are getting tired of his refusal to speak the language.”

Celtic took their January business to four new signings as they paraded Oh Hyeon-gyu this week but Jake Curley, Edinburgh, said: “See mega-bucks Celtic are splashing out even more this transfer window. They’re now buying £2.5 million strikers. And still they believe that they’ll make big inroads into next season’s Champions League. Get real Scottish football.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, had a message for another Hotline regular when he blasted: “George Wilson is on here constantly slaughtering anyone with an opinion. His beloved Rangers went to a Euro final last year and Gio Van Bronckhorst was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Dutchman got no backing this season then was shown the door. Beale is scratching around the bargain basement looking for cheap players who have hardly kicked a ball in the hope they will come good. As for next season .. is Mr Wilson saying his team have given up this season?”

On other matters and the pressure is piled on both dig outs when Hibs host Aberdeen this afternoon.

Dons boss Jim Goodwin was given a stay of execution by chairman Dave Cormack after Monday’s Scottish Cup embarrassment at Darvel - but with a warning that the response must be “immediate”.

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “Aberdeen's statement pretty much said that results need to improve or else. Unfortunately for Jim Goodwin, his team don't play Rangers until April 22.”

And Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, added: “Fair play to Dave Cormack for giving Jim Goodwin a second chance, personally I thought he was gone, I still don’t think he’ll last the season.”

Disillusioned Kilmarnock fan Tom Paterson, Falkirk, said: “If Aberdeen want Derek McInnes back then great, they can have him! As Killie boss he has hardly improved us and where are all the new signings? Kyle Vassel looks as slow as Christian Doidge and now I see Josh Stones has gone to Ross County instead of Killie.

"Someone at Rugby Park is not doing their job properly. McInnes chops and changes every week - we never have a settled team. Get a decent striker and midfielder in pronto or we’re going back down.”

And Hibee Kevin Lord, Drylaw, is worried his side are allowing star duo Ryan Porteous and Kevin Nisbet to leave midway through the season. He said: “Hibs sell full Scotland internationals before the season is past in January. Of course, they will be offering ticket holders a refund should they feel sold short? Aye right.”
