New polling data reveals interesting insights into the preferences of Latino registered voters in the upcoming election. Vice President Kamala Harris is currently leading former President Donald Trump among this demographic, with 54% of Latino registered voters supporting Harris compared to 40% backing Trump. However, Harris is not performing as strongly as previous Democratic nominees with this growing segment of the electorate.
Among Hispanic women, Harris maintains a significant lead over Trump, with 60% supporting her compared to 34% for Trump. On the other hand, Harris and Trump are running neck and neck among Hispanic men, each receiving 47% of the support.
When it comes to specific issues, Harris holds a substantial advantage over Trump among Latino voters. She leads by 30 points or more on topics such as treating immigrants humanely, protecting immigrant rights, handling abortion, and addressing the concerns of the Hispanic community. However, Trump has narrower leads over Harris on issues like the economy, inflation, the cost of living, and securing the border.
The survey also indicates a shift in Latino voters' views on immigration since 2016. While a majority still believe that immigration benefits the US more than it harms (62%), the percentage of Latino voters who think immigration does more harm than good has more than doubled since 2016, rising from 16% to 35%.
This new poll underscores a broader trend of Democrats losing ground among voters of color. It highlights the importance of understanding and addressing the evolving perspectives and priorities of diverse voter groups in the political landscape.
