Lathaniel Burrell: Two charged after boy, 16, shot dead in Stockwell

Two more men have been charged with murder after a 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Stockwell, marking a “significant milestone” in detectives’ investigation.

Lathaniel Burrell was killed in broad daylight close to Stockwell Tube station in south London on Tuesday, March 4.

In an update on Thursday, the Met Police confirmed a 17-year-old boy from Peckham and Jeffery Frimpong, 30, from Lambeth have both been charged with murder.

The 17-year-old boy, who can not be named due to legal reasons, was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Both will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court later on Thursday.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, said: “These charges mark a significant milestone in the investigation. We continue to appeal for witnesses and for those with knowledge of this incident to come forward.

“Please be reassured that we will continue to investigate this matter and ensure that all offenders are brought to justice.”

It comes after another 17-year-old boy was charged with murder on Tuesday, March 11. The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Bromley Youth Court on Wednesday, March 12. He is due to next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday, May 29.

Omar Prempeh, aged 32, of Sunderland Road, Forest Hill, was also charged with murder on Saturday, March 8 in relation to the investigation.

He appeared at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, March 12 and is due to appear before the Old Bailey again on Thursday, May 29.

Police were alerted shortly after 3.20pm on Tuesday, March 4, to reports of a shooting on Paradise Road.

Paramedics from London's Air Ambulance and the London Ambulance Service treated Lathaniel at the scene but were unable to save his life.

Relatives described the young victim as a Manchester United fan who enjoyed playing Playstation 5. He had one sibling, a sister.
