Latest figures have revealed that life expectancy at birth in Lanarkshire has fallen.
A report from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) show that within NHS Lanarkshire, the average life expectancy at birth for men was 74.9 years and 79.5 years for women.
This is less than the Scottish average of 76.6 years for men and 80.8 years for women for 2019-2021.
Both men and women in South Lanarkshire had greater life expectancy on average at 75.8 and 80.4 respectively compared to 74.1 and 78.6 in North Lanarkshire according to the 2019-2021 stats.
In Lanarkshire, the average life expectancy continued to fall from 2018-2020 figures - which were 75.4 for men and 79.8 for women.
The decrease in average life expectancy from birth follows the pattern across Scotland as a whole.
The NRS said Covid-19 deaths accounted for the majority of the fall.
In Lanarkshire's Scottish Parliamentary constituencies, East Kilbride had the highest life expectancy at birth for women at 81.4 years while Clydesdale had the highest in men at 77.5.
The average for men in East Kilbride was 76.9 - second to Clydesdale - which came just below East Kilbride for women at 80.8.
Elsewhere, the Motherwell and Wishaw constituency had the lowest at 77.7 years for women and 73.1 for men.
Second lowest was Airdrie and Shotts at 77.9 for women and 73.4 for men.
Meanwhile, Rutherglen saw average life expectancy for women at 79 years and 74 for men; Coatbridge and Chryston at 79.1 and 74.8 respectively; Uddingston and Bellshill 79.1 for women and 74.6 for men and Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse recorded an average of 80.3 for women and 75.1 for men.
Deprivation continues to have an impact on life expectancy.
In the most deprived areas of Scotland, average male life expectancy was 13.7 years lower than in the least deprived areas.
For females the difference was 10.5 years. This gap has become wider in recent years and Scotland has the lowest life expectancy of all UK countries.
Life expectancy was also higher in rural areas than in urban areas.
Julie Ramsay, head of vital events statistics at NRS, said: "Life expectancy has decreased by more than 11 weeks for males and almost eight weeks for females since 2018-2020.
"Our analysis shows that COVID-19 deaths accounted for the vast majority of the fall in life expectancy for both males and females."
