The order in which the quarterback end up coming off the board has been a discussion for some time. The discussion has been centered around North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. According to Tom Pelissero, that might be changing.
During the show The Insiders, Pelissero reported that he was hearing that Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is the most popular answer for the Washington Commanders at number two overall.
“It’s been really interesting because everybody’s always trying to figure out, especially at the top draft, what the other teams are doing. When I’ve had conversations here (owners meetings) with executives from other teams who know (Washington Commanders general manager) Adam Peters well, know the situation well, the most popular answer for what they do at number two is J.J. McCarthy.”
That’s definitely not something that has been discussed before. Then again, nobody mentioned McCarthy as an option for the Vikings at 11th overall until January when Dane Brugler did.
Is it a smokescreen? Perhaps, but this is coming unprompted from other executives and not from inside the building. Right now, it’s merely speculation and nothing more.
It is, however, very juicy speculation.
