The 2024 NFL draft is top-heavy with quarterback talent, but a new report hints at the direction the New England Patriots might go in if they’re looking to take a signal-caller with the No. 3 overall pick.
With USC’s Caleb Williams likely being the first name taken off the board, there are some who believe UNC’s Drake Maye will go before LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Per The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, the Washington Commanders could be in the driver seat for the Tar Heels star, which could be good news for the Patriots if they’re looking to land Daniels.
Howe wrote:
There’s belief by rival team executives the Washington Commanders are high on Maye and that he should remain the favorite as the second pick.
Daniels is coming off a Heisman Trophy-winning season that saw him record 3,812 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions. New England met with the quarterback earlier this week, as his stock continues to rise.
Landing Daniels could be a game-changer for the Patriots considering his tremendous upside and playmaking ability. The Patriots need that kind of effort from the quarterback position moving forward, and Daniels would be a strong starting point to getting the quarterback room back on the right track.
