Latest on work rebuilding fire-damaged pub co-owned by England cricketer Stuart Broad

Construction crews have stripped out a fire-ravaged pub owned by England cricketer Stuart Broad and his former Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club teammate Harry Gurney.

The Tap & Run in Upper Broughton, near Melton in Leicestershire, was gutted by the blaze back in June which saw the entire roof engulfed in flames. The cost of repairs has been estimated at £1 million.

Rebuilding started within weeks of the fire after insurers agreed the cause was accidental, and the first steps saw the roof brought down and the interior ripped out.

Before and after shots posted on Twitter show where the gastro pub’s bar once stood and give a good indication of the extent of the damage.

The team tweeted: “The pub has now been fully stripped back to brick and the rebuilding has commenced. Hopefully we’ll see a roof on by the start of October, so the real work inside can begin."

The blaze broke out in the roof, and firefighters ruled it was accidental although the exact cause could not be pinpointed.

Back in June Mr Gurney said: "Although the trading space on the ground floor isn't particularly fire-damaged it was smoke-damaged and water-damaged.

“So much water poured into the building to put the fire out downstairs is pretty much ruined and everything is pretty much a write-off with the exception of the odd table and chair."
