Latest next Chelsea manager odds as new favourite emerges after major Julian Nagelsmann update

Mauricio Pochettino is now the favourite to become Chelsea's next manager after a major update came to light regarding previous favourite Julian Nagelsmann. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nagelsmann has pulled out from the race after the latest round of talks.

After impressing in face-to-face talks last Thursday, football.london reported that the young German coach was the front-runner for the vacancy at Stamford Bridge, however that no longer looks the case.

The tweet from Romano published on Friday afternoon read: "Julian Nagelsmann has now withdrawn from the race to become the new Chelsea head coach — it looks like it’s his final decision. German coach is said to be no longer available after multiple round of talks. Nagelsmann was top candidate for the job."

This update has seen the odds drastically change involving both Nagelsmann and Pochettino. On SkyBet, the former Tottenham boss is 1/4 to be the man who takes charge of Chelsea's opening fixture in the 2023/24 season. Nagelsmann, meanwhile, has dropped down to 10/1 behind former River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo who is listed at 8/1

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, who was revealed as one of the final four managers on Todd Boehly' shortlist is down at 6/1. Jose Mourinho, who won numerous trophies during two spells in west London, is fifth on the list at 12/1.

Talks looked set to continue over the coming days as the names in contention dropped down to four. Luis Enrique was the first big name to go despite the Spain Boss being the first to hold in-person talks.

Pochettino was interviewed for the role when Thomas Tuchel was sacked but Boehly and co. opted for Graham Potter. With the vacancy in need of filling again, the Argentine is understandably among the favourites to take charge with the Blues 'warming' to Pochettino in recent meetings, according to the Telegraph.
