Latest Liverpool injury news as four miss Arsenal with Virgil van Dijk update and Mo Salah concern

Liverpool could welcome back two key first team players for the visit of Arsenal on Sunday. The Gunners are looking to keep their title charge in full swing with the chance to make it eight wins on the bounce when they visit Anfield.

The red half of Merseyside has been a major bogey ground for Mikel Arteta's men, though, with the manager playing in the last win in the league there in 2012. Since then there has been just two points from nine trips.

When Arteta tried to prepare his side for the fixture there last season it brought about one of the funniest moments of the Amazon All or Nothing series as he used large speakers to imitate the Anfield crowd only to lose 4-0. The Reds are on a slump, though, and come into the game having won one game in the last five, without a win the previous four.

Arteta may have to beware of an injured beast though with Jurgen Klopp rotating his side in midweek against Chelsea, dropping Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo to the bench. Elsewhere Virgil van Dijk missed the game with illness.

It is something that Arteta will be keeping a keen eye on ahead of the clash with his own worries as William Saliba remains out while Eddie Nketiah is unlikely to return either. Van Dijk, on the other hand, only missed the game with illness and Klopp was optimistic of his chances of recovering for the weekend.

"I think he will be ready for the weekend, yes," the German said. Bukayo Saka was similarly ill for Arsenal's home game against Leeds last week but should be fit to return here in a key game.

In another boost for Liverpool, Thiago Alcantara has been seen in training once again. The Spanish midfielder hasn't played in the league since Febraury 4 with a hip flexor problem.

The 31 year-old would provide much needed energy for Klopp who is now without Naby Keita and Stefan Bajcetic as well. Calvin Ramsay is also out for the rest of the season whilst Luis Diaz is yet to return to first team action, though he has been spotted in training too.

There was no sign of Salah, Diogo Jota or Joe Gomez in the Liverpool training pictures though, sparking fears over their fitness ahead of the game.
