Latest Greater Manchester coronavirus infection rates as cases fall by at least a quarter in all ten boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates across Greater Manchester fell by at least a quarter in every area. Over the past week the number of positive cases have continued to plummet across the region.

All boroughs except Wigan are below the national average for England. The town has Greater Manchester's highest infection rates, currently standing at 131.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester still has the lowest infection rate, with 86.6 cases per 100,000 people. Across Greater Manchester 3,031 people tested positive for the virus, in the week to Saturday, April 30, 1,563 fewer cases than the previous week.

Hospital admissions

A total of 422 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19 in the week ending on April 24. That is 270 fewer than the week before, a fall of 178 percent. On Tuesday, April 26, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending April 30, a total of 40 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 23 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 988,757 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,230 deaths.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

In Manchester 481 people tested positive in the week ending April 30, 250 fewer than the past week. There was a weekly fall of 34 per cent.

A total of 288 people tested positive across Trafford , 124 fewer cases than the previous seven days. Compared with the week earlier cases fell by 30 per cent.

In Rochdale there were 245 positive tests, 83 fewer than the previous week. Cases were down by a quarter week-on-week.

In Wigan , 436 people tested positive,162 fewer than the previous week. There was a weekly fall of 27 per cent.

Tameside recorded 249 coronavirus cases, which is 95 fewer than in the previous seven days. Cases decreased by 28 per cent week-on-week.

In Stockport , 344 people tested positive, 244 fewer than the week before, a weekly decrease of 41 per cent.

In Salford cases fell by 42 per cent, after 274 people tested positive, 197 fewer than the previous seven days.

There were 230 cases recorded in Oldham , 85 fewer than the previous week, representing a fall of 27 per cent.

In Bolton , the number of cases was down by 41 per cent compared to the previous week. There were 283 positive tests, 196 fewer than the previous seven days.

Bury recorded 201 positive tests, 127 fewer than the previous week. Cases fell week-on-week by 39 per cent.
