Many Brits will be heading off on a last-minute getaway before the summer holidays are over. In recent months several countries have eased their Covid restrictions or scrapped their entry requirements altogether, making it easier to go abroad.
Passengers will no longer have to complete complicated forms or provide proof of vaccination when arriving at certain holiday hotspots, including France and Cyprus. Rules on face masks have also been relaxed for some countries.
However it’s important to be aware of what the latest advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is before you travel. Some destinations still have entry requirements in place, or rules surrounding face masks on public transport.

Read on for the latest guidance from the FCDO for travel to Spain, Turkey, France, Portugal, Cyprus, Italy and Greece. Coronavirus rules can change at the last minute so check the FCDO website for the most recent advice before you travel.
Spain
Holidaymakers arriving in Spain must provide proof of one of the following:
- Full vaccination - this includes a booster jab if your last dose of a two-dose vaccine (or the single dose of a one-dose vaccine) was administered more than 270 days before travel
- A negative Covid-19 test, which can be either a PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure, or an antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to departure
- Recovery from Covid-19 in the last six months, which can be a medical certificate or a recovery record
Children under 12 are exempt from these requirements. If you do not have proof of being fully vaccinated, or of having recovered from coronavirus in the last six months, and are over 12, you must complete Spain’s Travel Health Control form.
Face masks must be worn by those over the age of 6 while on public transport in Spain.
Turkey
All coronavirus restrictions have been lifted in Turkey, as of June 1. Passengers arriving in Turkey no longer need to show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test result.
France
France removed all of its coronavirus travel restrictions on August 1.
Portugal
Travellers arriving in Portugal no longer need to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, negative test result or complete a passenger locator form to enter mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores.
You need to wear a face covering when using public transport in mainland Portugal and the Azores.
Cyprus
Cyprus lifted all its coronavirus entry requirements on June 1. Face masks are compulsory in all indoor venues and on all public transport for everyone aged 12 and above.
Italy
All entry requirements have been lifted in Italy so passengers no longer need to complete locator forms, show proof of vaccination, recovery from Covid-19 or provide a negative test result in order to enter the country.
Travellers need to wear an FFP2 mask if entering Italy by ferry, train or coach, as well as on public transport. Masks do not need to be worn on flights to or from Italy.
Greece
Holidaymakers arriving in Greece no longer need to show proof of Covid vaccination, a negative coronavirus test or a certificate of recovery. Passenger locator forms are no longer required. Masks must be worn while using public transport in Greece.
