Customers at Tesco are to be offered a cheaper alternative to a lateral flow test which will cost less than a cup of takeaway coffee.
As of yesterday, April 1, lateral flows are no longer free to get from retailers and pharmacies but healthcare firm Everything Genetic are helping supply the tests to Tesco.
According to the firm's chief executive James Price, the partnership with Tesco would hopefully regulate LFT costs and help consumers who are worried about expenses during the cost of living crisis. The healthcare firm aims to maintain test prices to “less than a "takeaway coffee” to provide "reliable, accurate and affordable" tests.

He added: "As the kits will now be positioned in convenient Tesco retail locations up and down the country, they’ll be readily available at a moment’s notice for anyone wanting to get tested".
It comes as Boots has been forced to change the price of its lateral flow tests as others undercut the pharmacy. Superdrug announced that it will sell a single lateral flow test for £1.99, along with a five pack of tests for £9.79.
Superdrug's prices are much lower than those of high street rival Boots, who used to charge £5.99 for one test or a pack of four for £17. The pricing war comes as people have struggled to order lateral flow tests online amid a scramble for free kits while they are still available.
